there's a reason opus 5.5 is the best model right now: openai got arrogant and thought they could pace the frontier. they have a much stronger model internally (astra successor), but are holding it back for later. instead, they thought their last-generation astra/doug model would be enough to stay ahead anthropic showed them otherwise
