Grok Bot Creator Rewards may have quietly created an entirely new kind of X creator 👀 X has started testing a program that rewards people for building public Grok Bot templates other people actually use, with rewards calculated every two weeks based partly on how many people use them and whether they keep coming back That’s considerably more interesting than paying somebody because a post went viral A useful Bot could help people budget, garden, study, run a business, plan meals or do some ridiculously specific job its creator understands particularly well Which means the next successful X creator may not be somebody with millions of followers. It might be somebody who built one extremely useful little robot Yet this also reminds me of something Elon has been talking about for years He’s described a future where our phones eventually stop revolving around operating systems and individual applications and become more like conduits between us and AI, with the AI figuring out what we want and doing it for us If that’s where we’re going, perhaps we’re watching the very early version of what replaces the App Store Instead of developers building applications we download, developers could build specialized AI agents we choose because they’re particularly good at doing something for us ✨ Suddenly the question of what happens to app developers in an AI future has a rather interesting answer: they become Bot developers X already has the people, Grok Bot has the agents and X Money now gives X a way to pay the people who build useful ones That’s starting to look considerably less like a collection of separate products and considerably more like the beginnings of an ecosystem For now the rewards pilot is still limited and invitation only for now, so we’re certainly not replacing the App Store with AI agents yet, however perhaps we’re looking at the first few being installed 🤖
