担忧 Muse 类助理让人际互动变少
作者认为 Muse 这类个人助理会让人把社交任务外包给 agent,便利之后是人际互动被替代,且网络效应让人难以退出。
Yeah it seems pretty clear that personal assistant AI agents like Muse will lead to a world where there’s just much less interaction, and a lot more “my agent will talk to your agent and sort it out.” At the start, it’ll feel convenient and efficient and helpful, especially for people (like me) with poor executive function. Then as more people start to use it, it’ll become obvious it’s replacing a meaningful amount of normal human interaction, negotiation, planning, anticipation, etc. We’ll be able to slough off antisocial tasks to the agents that would feel bad if we had to do them ourselves, but with a layer of distancing technology we’ll indulge these impulses much more readily (“call Ellie’s Muse and tell her I can’t make it. Make up a plausible excuse, then find me a good movie to watch and order some weed delivered”) Eventually it will become alarming and upsetting and people will start writing and making shortform video about this atomizing process (or they’ll have their agents make that content, perhaps), but by then it’ll be too late, because everyone will expect you to have a Muse (or equivalent) because it’s just sooooo convenient, and it’s just sooooo slow to do things with someone who doesn’t have a personal agent. In other words, it’s going to be exactly like what every other “connectivity” technology has actually wrought: less actual human connection, and network effects that make it nearly impossible to opt out. But, probably much more intensely so.
