I asked my grok bot to assess Matt Rhule’s tenure at Nebraska and here is the reply: My honest take, Jon, is that Rhule has done what he was hired to do. He inherited a program that hadn't been to a bowl since 2016, and he's built it the way he always does: tough first, then win. Year 1 (2023): 5-7, with great defense but an offense that couldn't hold on to the ball. Still, the team was clearly tougher. Year 2 (2024): Bowl eligible and won the Pinstripe Bowl, the first bowl trip in eight years. That was the turning point.
