THIS IS PURE F*CKING TREASURE Anthropic just shared one of the best tricks for Claude Code. The idea: every prompt you send already saved a checkpoint, and you can jump back to any of them. You stop losing 40 minutes to a dead end, and you free context without touching a single file. You just run this in Claude Code: /rewind here's the split: → /rewind, or esc esc on an empty prompt, opens the menu → restore the code, the conversation, or both, to any earlier prompt → summarize from a point forward and free context with every file untouched → you stop firing /compact in the middle of a task it only misses three things: → files changed by bash commands, rm and mv are not coming back → subagent edits, that is what git is for → symlinked and hard-linked files, those get skipped Rewind restores. Summarize frees. Git covers the rest. JEV engineering is the same move one layer down: the forks that need no thinker (which file, which tool, retry or stop) go to JEV in milliseconds, and the big models only see the ones that split the full tree > every prompt saves a checkpoint, the last 100 stay in the session > /rewind or esc esc on an empty prompt opens the menu > restore code and conversation, or either one on its own > summarize from here frees context and leaves every file on disk alone > rewinding lands on a prefix that is already cached, /compact builds a new one > JEV routes micro-forks in milliseconds paste the tree and this prompt into Claude Code ↓ "Reconfigure my Claude Code setup around this tree: 1. Add one rule to CLAUDE.md: when context gets tight, use /rewind and summarize from a point instead of running /compact. 2. Add a second rule: before a risky refactor, remind me that bash edits and subagent edits are not covered by checkpoints. 3. Set cleanupPeriodDays in my settings so checkpoint snapshots survive longer than the default 30 days. 4. Route fast deterministic forks (tool choice, path selection, retries) through JEV. Show me every change as a diff first. No edits until I say go." ↳ http://code.claude.com/docs/en/checkpointing save it, it'll come in handy.
