Claude Opus 5.5 music video skewers the fusion "30 years away" joke
The YouTube channel Runaway Electrons posted a fusion-themed music video labeled as made with Claude Opus 5.5, whose lyrics accurately mock the running "always 30 years away" fusion joke.
If you've ever followed the long pursuit of fusion power, whether you're a serious scientist or someone who needs it to explain how the flying saucers get here, you have to hear this one. Found it on YouTube from a channel called Runaway Electrons: "30 Years Away (Fusion, any decade now)" It's labeled as a Claude Opus 5.5 music video. The music's catchy, but I'm sharing it because the lyrics are brilliant and made the nerd in me smile. Whoever wrote this clearly understands the science. It's not word salad. It's "net gain" that only works if you ignore the power bill, ignition that lasts about a billionth of a second, 14 MeV neutrons chewing up the reactor wall, and the world's entire tritium supply weighing about as much as a dog. Then it turns around and skewers the research grind too. Grant reports, Reviewer 2, and the 16th framework built to unify the other 15. The fact that AI generated the music and imagery doesn't mean anything to me (good or bad). It's clever, and it's funny because it's so true. Everybody who's been anywhere near physics has heard it: fusion power is always "just 30 years away." Here's a clip, link in the first comment below. Give the whole thing a listen and show the channel some love.
