Opus 5.5 vs Sonnet 5.5 build the same 3D steampunk whale
Both models used the same structured prompts and Blender MCP to build the scene before moving it to Three.js, comparing token cost and final 3D output.
Opus 5.5 vs Sonnet 5.5 building the same 3D steampunk whale Both models received the same series of structured prompts and used Blender MCP to build the scene in Blender before transferring it into Three.js for the browser. The compute difference: Opus 5.5 > 2.50M output tokens > 342M total tokens > ~$156 API equivalent Sonnet 5.5 > 1.68M output tokens > 297M total tokens > ~$109 API equivalent Sonnet 5.5 was surprisingly capable, especially considering the lower token usage and cost. But visually, Opus 5.5 still produced the stronger 3D result in this test. Coding benchmarks are useful, but experiments like this show how different the gap can look once models leave the terminal and start working directly with 3D tools.
