Developer builds read-only Canvas MCP with ChatGPT Sites
The author turned their university Canvas courses into a read-only MCP connector so ChatGPT can read announcements, readings and assignments and build study material from them.
My Dot couldn't see my university courses, so I built it a way in. Copying Canvas announcements, readings, and files into chat kept slowing me down. So I used ChatGPT Sites to build a private Canvas MCP, a connector that lets my Dot read my course content directly. This week it: • checked my assigned readings • caught an announcement that changed a class time • built study material for my exams It's read-only, so it can look things up but never change anything in Canvas. The biggest upgrade to my assistant wasn't a better model. It was giving it access to the stuff I actually work with.
