Claude Duet launches as a proactive background agent

Anthropic launched Claude Duet days ago, a proactive AI agent that works in the background instead of waiting for you to open a chat It monitors the tools you’ve connected, sends you a short morning brief of what actually needs attention and keeps working on tasks even after you close the app You can message it by text or voice in one ongoing thread It runs on Claude Opus 5.5 and carries over the memory, skills and connectors already in your Claude account The real power is the plugin and connector ecosystem Claude Duet can use the 6,000+ connectors and plugins in the Claude Marketplace, including: - Gmail: finds missed messages and drafts replies - Slack: surfaces what you missed and helps you respond - Intuit QuickBooks: checks for unpaid invoices and drafts reminders - Stripe: finds outstanding invoices and prepares follow ups - Gust: prepares payroll with hours, bonuses, and reimbursements filled in - HubSpot: drafts follow up emails using contact and deal history - DocuSign: helps prepare agreements and gets them ready for review and signature - LinkedIn: drafts job postings and posts them after you approve - Canva: turns a product launch into a social campaign - Shopify: sets up, designs, and manages your store (richer visual editor coming soon) Example workflows people are already using: “Chase unpaid invoices” → it checks QuickBooks or Stripe, drafts the reminder emails, and waits for your approval “Prep this week’s payroll” → it fills in Gusto and flags it for review “Draft follow ups for open deals” → it pulls HubSpot history and writes the emails “Build a simple dashboard or financial forecast” → it creates the file and drops it for you to edit Purchases for the business can go through Stripe’s Link (you approve the amount; it uses a one time virtual card) Safety controls are built in. Access right now is a research preview. It’s included in Claude Pro and Max plans for US subscribers via waitlist (no extra charge). It uses the same usage limits as the rest of Claude background monitoring and larger tasks count toward them People admitted early get one full limit reset through November 30. Team and Enterprise plans aren’t supported yet
