Claude motion design workflow: from brief to rendered frames
A breakdown of using Claude to extract a visual language, split scenes, write animation timelines and camera moves, then inspect rendered frames as a reusable motion system.

Anthropic engineer: “it’s possible because the LLMs - e.g. Cursor Composer with Sonnet - are getting too good.” Andrej Karpathy coined “vibe coding” before joining Anthropic. now the same shift is coming for motion design. most people ask Claude to generate a cool animation. that wastes the important part. Claude can build the entire system behind the animation: extract the visual language from references divide the story into individual scenes create reusable layouts and components write the animation timeline move the camera between focal points render every frame inspect the finished MP4 for failures the prompt doesn’t describe every movement. it defines the result. Claude works backward from it: brief → storyboard → visual system → animated components → frame checks → final render want the typography to feel heavier? change one token. want every transition to move faster? update one duration variable. want another aspect ratio? recalculate the layout and render it again. this is what makes code-based motion design different from generating a random AI video. the result is not trapped inside one output. every element remains inspectable: the text the assets the timing the easing the camera the transitions the render settings Claude still doesn’t give you taste for free. it can create clutter. animate objects without purpose. choose weak pacing. and produce technically valid motion that communicates absolutely nothing. the human still decides what deserves attention. but once that direction is clear, Claude can turn it into a repeatable production system instead of one disposable animation. the prompt starts the work. the system makes the motion shippable. I broke down the full Claude motion design workflow below ↓
