Building a personal finance site with ChatGPT Sites and MCP
A user added an MCP to their finance site so ChatGPT can reconcile purchases nightly, suggest and activate budgets, and the site runs as a PWA with sign in with ChatGPT.
Yes! A while back I created a Site to help me manage my finances, track my spending, create budgets, and calculate how to distribute my money between my investments when each paycheck hits. Before, I would manually create my budgets, manually enter my purchases, etc. When I heard about the new MCP ability, I had my dot update the site to include an MCP that would allow it to input/edit spend history, create/edit budgets, etc. Since I already use ChatGPT Finances, my accounts are already all hooked up. I just have my dot once a night check any purchases on the card, and reconcile them on my site. It even has the ability to create a profile for itself and upload its name/avatar so I can see which inputs are mine and which are my dot's! Once every few weeks it gives me a breakdown of my spending, and can recommend an updated budget to help me save more. If I approve it, it uses the MCP to create a new budget for me and sets it as active! Oh, and the site is currently private, so only I have access, but it uses sign in with ChatGPT so I suppose it would be possible to open it up for others as well but haven't thought about it yet... I even had dot make the Site available as a PWA so I have it as a little app on my phone. (Here are some photos showing how the site indicates when something is added by dot)
