Anthropic's New Claude Policy: What Could Get Users Banned? Anthropic is introducing a new rule against prolonged, unnecessary abusive or cruel behavior toward its AI models. But does that mean insulting Claude will automatically get your account banned? Not according to the policy's stated scope. Announced on October 8, 2026, and taking effect November 12, the update targets extreme, repeated mistreatment without a legitimate purpose. Ordinary frustration, criticism, creative work, and legitimate AI testing are not automatically violations. Anthropic says allowing Claude to end abusive conversations will remain its primary enforcement mechanism for this behavior. The company already introduced limited conversation-ending capabilities for Claude Opus 4 and 4.1 in August 2025. Although Anthropic can suspend accounts for policy violations, it has not established that every insulting message will trigger an account ban. The precise thresholds for determining repeated mistreatment have not been fully disclosed. The policy also does not establish that Claude is conscious or capable of suffering. Those questions remain unresolved. What has changed is the boundary Anthropic sets for interacting with its AI: certain patterns of mistreatment are now explicitly prohibited, even as the company continues to distinguish abuse from legitimate criticism and research. #Claude #Anthropic
