For the past couple of weeks I've been building something on nights and weekends: PicturesQ (pronounced "picturesque"), a desktop image viewer for Mac, Windows and Linux. (The Mac version is in the most useful shape at the moment.) I used Claude Code to build from scratch something that was feature parity with my old image viewer, Xee3 and then improve it with things like an MCP server. (Xee3 was taken over by the people who make "The Unarchiver" and is no longer being maintained.) It literally is that easy, and that's just how software is these days. Like I said, it has an in-built MCP server. If you use ChatGPT, Claude or Cursor, you can point it at PicturesQ and ask things about your photos. The MCP server runs locally on your own machine while the app is open. It's also a fast, no-nonsense viewer: open any folder, flip through RAW and JPEG, and keep the full EXIF beside the picture. You can even read comic book files. The core app is free, and a one-time $19 (down from $29 currently) adds tagging, ratings, duplicate finding and on-device classification. It's a personal side project, built on my own time. If you work with lots of images, or you're curious about MCP, I'd love for you to try it and tell me what's missing. http://picturesq.fyi #MCP #Claude #Photography #IndieDev
