DeepSeek V4.1-Flash-1017 officially launched 7 hours ago. here are my first observations: 1. it’s better at task completion. it gets to the solution with fewer unnecessary steps and shorter outputs. 2. it doesn’t feel faster per token, but the overall time-to-solution is better because it wastes less output. 3. on coding tasks, it feels more decisive. fewer long “hmm / wait” loops before committing to an implementation. 4. the new Search + Fetch support makes it much more useful as an agent, especially when i need fresh web information without wiring another search provider. 5. i’d still keep a reviewer in the loop. the model feels improved, but i wouldn’t suddenly trust complex multi-file changes without a second pass. this feels more like a refinement of V4.1 Flash than a completely new model.
