GPT-6 Astra in Practice: Tests, Use Cases, and Feedback

A Codex configuration that makes GPT-6.1 Sol the main coding model and calls Astra in only for planning, repeated errors and final review, with a paste-ready prompt.

The author ran the same prompt on Astra at launch and now, finding the image more refined with stronger lighting and more depth, and concludes it was not nerfed.

A ten-step walkthrough of running agents with the Sol model and sessions API: picking a runtime, connecting MCP, enabling subagents and managing memory, with OpenAI hosting the harness.

A long-time Codex user says GPT-6 Astra is a good model but Opus 5.5 is stronger with looser limits, so they are not renewing ChatGPT Pro.

A Stanford study has Astra run high-entropy breadth search while Opus 5.5 audits each step and rewrites only the broken ones, lifting MATH500 from 29.6% to 58%.

A leak says Astra's launch slipped to next week because of internal safety and alignment issues found in testing, while Ultrafast stays on schedule.

The author says GPT-6 Astra recreated Counter-Strike: Source movement physics so that surf runs entirely in the browser.

The author fed one prompt to Grok 4.7, GPT-6 Astra and Opus 5.5, calling Astra's output horror-like, Opus 5.5's feel-good and Grok 4.7's poor, with a video comparison.

A long post argues OpenAI paused new sign-ups for the $200 tier and roughly halved usage across plans due to compute constraints, and the author still prefers Astra Medium but worries about running out of quota.

He gave spreadsheet data from his university's geology lab to Dots running on GPT-6 Astra, which built a 3D visualization webpage overnight and won him $4,000.

A leak claims OpenAI will ship Ultrafast this week first, pushing Astra to next week, where it could clash head-on with Fable 5.5.

OpenAI is simplifying its apps, loosening limits and testing new features, but the remark taken as a GPT-6.1 Astra tease actually refers to GPT-6.1 Sol's Ultrafast mode.
