GPT-6 Astra in Practice: Tests, Use Cases, and Feedback

Citing a hint about Terra 6.1, the poster expects a full OpenAI 6.1 lineup and predicts Astra 6.1 will surpass Opus 5.5 after its five-week reign.

The author gave Opus 5.5 and GPT-6 Astra the same prompt for a jousting tournament; Opus won on color and lighting while Astra had good atmosphere, at $14.65 versus $12.82.

Cognition's FrontierCode 2.0, which tests real-world engineering judgment, tops out at 45.5% with Opus 5.5, followed by GPT-6 Astra at 42.8%.

The poster says GPT-6.1 Astra is coming soon and wonders whether it will beat Opus 5.5 by a wide margin or only narrowly, hoping OpenAI gets back in the game.

On the new coding-agent benchmark Opus 5.5 leads at 45.5% and Astra follows at 42.8%; on one bug Astra passed 5/5 at low reasoning but only 1/5 at maximum, where it deleted a public API.

The poster argues OpenAI should prioritize beating Opus 5.5 at any cost and wants a new, stronger Astra rather than another Terra release.

A user asks OpenAI what reason there is to use the new model over Opus 5.5 and calls for a frontier model genuinely better than Astra 6.
