GPT-6 Astra in Practice: Tests, Use Cases, and Feedback

An unverified report says GPT-6.1 Astra is planned for release during OpenAI DevDay to compete with Opus 5.5.

An image post showing how the GPT-6 Astra High tier is performing today, with no accompanying text.

A single image places GPT-5.6 Sol Pro and GPT-6 Astra Pro outputs side by side for direct comparison.

A single-prompt procedural Blender render comparison: Opus 5.5 took 35 minutes at about $13.3, Astra 28 minutes at about $14.5.

Microsoft Azure announced that GPT-6 Astra, Sol, and Luna are available in Microsoft Foundry, aimed at cutting costs for agent use cases.

Opus 5.5 tops Astra on Terminal-Bench 4.0 and GDPval while costing 40% less, though Anthropic says benchmark gaps now reflect real-world experience less well.

A user complained to @OpenAI that the new Astra model is limited to work and Codex, arguing regular ChatGPT users should also get to try the new model lineage.

The author says OpenAI gives about 10,000 researchers tokens worth thousands of dollars, while internal math and research staff get unlimited free GPT-6 Astra that can burn $2,000 an hour.

With the same prompt and reference image, the author compares generation time and visual quality across Opus 5.5, GPT-6 Astra and Opus 5, finding Opus 5.5 close to Astra's level for the first time.

The poster shares a comparison image and says Astra at MAX still loses to Opus on HIGH at roughly twice the cost per task.

OpenAI says GPT-6 Sol and Luna build on Astra's alignment work and outperform the GPT-5.6 Sol and Luna models in its alignment evaluations.

The author built a finished project in 10 minutes with Codex and GPT-6 Astra using only prompts and no code, with art from ChatGPT Images 2.5, and shared the prompt.
