Opus 5.5 builds a robotic snake animation in Three.js
A 42-vertebra robotic snake animation made with Three.js and one Claude Opus 5.5 conversation, covering uncoiling, slither, thermal lock-on, strike, teardown and rebuild, with no Blender or video generator.
I built a robotic snake with Claude Opus 5.5. It sees heat, strikes faster than you can blink, and comes apart into 42 pieces 0:00. It wakes up coiled. 42 vertebrae unwind one by one, from head to tail. 0:03. The slither. A real snake doesn’t push off the ground. Each part of its body follows the exact path the head took, like a train on invisible rails. Mine does the same, and the spine-load panel shows the wave traveling down its body. 0:06. Thermal scan. Pit vipers have heat-sensing pits between their eyes and nostrils. They can reportedly sense temperature changes as small as a few thousandths of a degree, enough to “see” a mouse in total darkness. Watch the screen switch to thermal vision and lock on. 0:09. The strike. It rears into an S-curve, rattles, swings its fangs out 90°, and lunges. A rattlesnake strike can be over in less time than a blink. Venom primed. 0:11. Teardown. It coils into a ring on a turntable and splits into 42 vertebrae, with arcs jumping between them. 0:15. Rebuild. Every vertebra clicks back with a spark. 0:17. Gone. A full-amplitude wave, and it leaves the frame at 6 m/s. No Blender, no video generator. Just Three.js and one conversation with Claude. What should I build next? 👇
