Opus 5.5 renders a galaxy collision in 185 lines of JavaScript
The author had Claude Opus 5.5 write a gravity simulation of two galaxies colliding over a billion years in 185 lines of JavaScript, including physics, a 3D camera, glow and titles, with no libraries except ffmpeg; 22 seconds of 1080p video renders in 100 seconds on a Mac.
Two galaxies collide over a billion years. 60,000 stars, and the only force in the code is gravity. The tails come from tides. Each galaxy pulls harder on the near side of the other's disk than on the far side, and the rim stars get stretched into long streams. Alar and Juri Toomre worked this out in 1972 and used it to explain the tails of the Antennae galaxies. Claude Opus 5.5 wrote the whole thing in 185 lines of JavaScript: the physics, the 3D camera, the glow, the titles. No libraries except ffmpeg for encoding. 22 seconds of 1080p video render in 100 seconds on my Mac.
