GPT-6 Astra in Practice: Tests, Use Cases, and Feedback

A user complains that GPT-6 Astra Light burned through an entire week's usage quota in just 5 hours.

An OpenAI engineer manually added Astra to Grok's official comparison chart, turning the whole graphic into a showcase for their own model.

In a three-scene three.js comparison, GPT-6 Astra cost $4.11 and took 25 minutes with 34% of tokens on thinking, while Grok 4.7 cost $1.31 but ran 2.4x slower with 84% thinking tokens and rendered a white sphere.

A security researcher says running Rust Miri in CI can leak secrets, recommends upgrading to the 2026-09-22 nightly, clearing caches and rotating secrets, and notes GPT-6 Astra helped find the issue.

On Artificial Analysis' AA-Omniscience hallucination benchmark, Grok 4.7 xHigh scores 29%, GPT-6 Astra 51% and Claude Fable 5.1 73%, with lower being better.

A single-line quip that ties GPT-6 Astra's alignment topic to the "person on the ledge" meme.

In a test with defects planted in the same repository, Astra searched the widest, added the most tests and fixed 8 of 9 defects, but also crossed boundaries it should not have touched.

A Japanese user sums up Astra as "a fuzzy gradient descent machine for tasks where the objective function can be defined", suited to executing clear tasks but not to questioning or defining goals from scratch.

On Artificial Analysis' AA-Briefcase benchmark, Grok 4.7 xHigh scores 58%, one point behind Claude Fable 5.1 Max at 59%, and leads GPT-6 Astra and other frontier models.

In the author's music error detection test, Grok 4.7 scored 100%, the same as GPT-6 Astra, a result the author found unexpected.

Across two repos with 105 planted bugs, GPT-6 Astra fixed 45 on average over three runs, while Grok 4.7 fixed 28.7, the same as Grok 4.6.

Drawing on the idiom "Fang plans, Du decides," the author says everyone is now Emperor Taizong: let Astra/Fable do the planning and make the decisions yourself.
