GPT-6 Astra in Practice: Tests, Use Cases, and Feedback

Legacy skills were over-triggering or blocking self-checks, and a context-management experiment caused early stops and replies to older messages.

The author observes heavy rollbacks after Opus 5, GPT-6 Astra and Grok 4.6, with Astra cited as too expensive with spiky performance.

Images 2.5, GPT-Live-1, the Agents API, Data Agent and ChatGPT for Financial Services all shipped this week, with more planned before DevDay.

In the same workflow, Astra averaged $1.20 per request versus $0.19 for Fable 5.1, mainly due to Fable's better long-context caching, and the author also found Sol better at coding than Astra.

A Japanese summary of OpenAI's guidance lists six points: keep skill descriptions short, don't load everything into AGENTS.md, cut unused rules, read only what's needed, give goals instead of steps, and define done conditions upfront.

OpenAI says it fixed skills written for older models that triggered too often, disabled a context management experiment affecting roughly 4-5k users, and removed badly configured engines, with a reset also rolling out.

The author tested DeepSeek V4.1 Flash on kernel optimization and compared results: GPT-6 Astra at 24.8x and Fable 5 at 24.6x, while noting a persistent accumulator that is never zeroed.

On the new RealSWE benchmark, Fable 5.1 scores 38.8%, GPT-6 Astra 33.8% and GLM-5.3 28.8%, showing open models closing in on the frontier.

The post says OpenAI put over $10B into Astra reasoning models, whose real-time spatial reasoning engine solved a physical Rubik's Cube in 11.5 seconds on a livestream, making static LLM benchmarks obsolete.

Little Rail World is a browser-based Three.js and WebGL planet with trains, bridges, forests and villages that you can spin, board and build on.

On one water-simulation prompt, Astra finished in 30 seconds, DeepSeek V4.1 cloud took 103 seconds and 28.5K tokens, and the local setup on four DGX Sparks took 25 minutes.

The author uses GPT-6 Astra to recreate exaggerated fake mobile ads as playable games with upgrades, bosses and health bars, with a comparison video.
