Building a 3D fantasy game level with Opus 5.5 and Unreal MCP
A seven-step tutorial: connect Claude Code to UE5 via MCP, generate a playable level from one prompt, create a character in Tripo, rig it to the Mannequin skeleton, import animations, and avoid changing terrain, lighting, character and interactions in a single prompt.
here's how to build a 3D fantasy game with Claude Opus 5.5... the trick is splitting assets from assembly, but there's a smart way to set it up: - step 1: connect Claude Code to Unreal Engine 5 through MCP, and have Opus read the project before it changes anything - step 2: one prompt builds a playable base level: valley, dirt path, a town at the end, 3 glowing collectibles, a HUD counter - step 3: generate your character in Tripo from front, side and back views: quad mesh -> UVs -> textures -> rig - step 4: rig it with the UE5 Mannequin preset, so it works with Unreal's default skeleton - step 5: export FBX with skeleton + animations, import it, and check every animation before it goes near the level - step 6: Opus swaps the default character for yours and wires walk, run and jump - step 7: refine the forest and town in small batches, checking in the editor after each one and the rule that saves the whole project... a successful tool call doesn't mean the level is right in the tutorial, one batch left a floor that didn't blend, a collectible that lost its interaction and a mountain with no vegetation never change terrain, lighting, character and interactions in one prompt i like to validate the route with the default mannequin first, then bring in the custom character
